Welcome to our web site ! the recently created website of Theatre de Salon, a UK registered charity who designs and performs plays here and abroad.

This page tries a visual impact rather than a scholarly approach. perhaps this aspect has been more illustrated in the current toytheatre revival. So prepare your eyes for  a flamboyant adventure along the nations and centuries which fed toytheatre.
For a technical and detailed introduction see  :

The theatre featured here can be found in the local museum of Derby. It belongs to the Frank Bradley collection. There are two museum sites in Britain, Derby and also the Pollocks Museum , 1 Scala street, London.

The english style for toytheatre is small in scale, garish in colour and sometimes awkward in lines in comparison with more continental trends.Being very naive sometimes, it gains in charm and spirit.A notable exception is Orlando Hogdson , who probably worked  in set designs for the real theatres in London. There is more on top for english toytheatres

Other styles are generally grouped under ethnic lines, the english toytheatre tradition, the german, danish, french, austrian.... In the nineteen century, when toytheatre was a popular entertainment, all these nations competed with  their own genius to produce interesting or wonderful toytheatres with sceneries and characters drawn from their own dramatic resources.
